Caregiving has now become more intensive, with caregivers finding it difficult to maintain their own physical and emotional health. The Caregiving in the US 2025 Research Report revealed that one in four American adults (24%) is a family caregiver, with an average age of 51 years old.
Ways to Maintain Older Adult Independence
Independence is self-determination and freedom of thought, selection, and performance. For older adults, independence is the degree of individual autonomy in performing activities of daily living (such as eating, showering, and dressing) and the right to choose. Aging and Oral Health
Oral health is often neglected and is rarely prioritized. Older people do not receive nor have access to the necessary routine required in taking care of their oral health. The risk factors of older adults for oral problems include chewing or smoking tobacco and alcohol. Moreover, socioeconomic status is a consistent determinant of oral health worldwide. Common Heat-Related Illnesses You Should Know
People aged 65 years or older are more prone to health problems related to heat. Their natural cooling mechanism is less efficient, and they take medications that affect the heat-regulation of their body. The risk of heat-related illnesses increases if an older adult has a chronic illness, lives in hot climates, overdresses, takes medication that reduces sweating, dehydration, lack of airflow, and a salt-restricted diet. Moreover, older adults have slower physiological responses, which means that their bodies cannot recognize overheating or do not signal thirst quickly.
Listos CA hosts 2025 Communications Training in Pasadena
The 2025 Communications Training, with the theme “Ready Together,” was held in Pasadena, California, on July 15-16, 2025. The training is hosted by Listos California, a statewide network working towards emergency preparedness and an initiative of the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES). The two-day training was attended by over 200 community-based organizations trained in emergency preparedness.
